Robert Miles Moore was born and raised in Little Rock, Arkansas.  He attended Principia College in Elsah, Illinois and following graduation in 1978, began Aviation Officer Candidate School in Pensacola, Florida and served 30 years in the U.S. Navy.

            After designation as a naval aviator in May 1980, Rob reported to HSL-35 at NAS North Island to fly the SH-2F Seasprite.  He deployed twice to the western Pacific and Indian Ocean while in USS INGERSOLL (DD-990) in August 1981 and in USS COOK (FF-1083).  In December 1983, Rob reported to HT-8, NAS Whiting Field, in Milton, Florida as a primary helicopter flight instructor.  In October 1985 he was selected as the HT-8, Training Air Wing FIVE and Chief of Naval Air Training Instructor of the Year and the Naval Helicopter Association National Pilot of the Year for sustained performance. Additionally, he was recognized by the Pensacola Lion’s Club as an outstanding flight instructor and was the NHA Gulf Coast Pilot of the Year.

            In May 1988, Rob reported to the Navy’s newest SH-60B squadron, HSL-47, and served as the squadron’s first Quality Assurance Officer and in December 1988 deployed as OIC of HSL-47 Detachment Two, a two-aircraft detachment, in USS VALLEY FORGE (CG-50), supporting “EARNEST WILL” Kuwaiti re-flagged tanker escort in the Persian Gulf.  In November 1989, Rob transferred to HSL-49 where he served as the first Safety Officer and Operations Officer and later deployed in USS CHOSIN (CG-65).

            In June 1991, Rob reported as Flag Secretary to Commander, Anti-Submarine Warfare Wing, U.S. Pacific Fleet, where he served under Rear Admiral Don W. Baird until August 1993.  He reported to the U.S. Naval War College and graduated in 1994, at which time he transferred to NAS Lemoore as Comptroller flying the UC-12 until May 1995.

            Rob transferred to Tactical Air Control Squadron TWELVE as Executive Officer in October 1995.  In May 1996, he deployed in USS BELLEAU WOOD (LHA-3) as Officer in Charge of Detachment Three and as Amphibious Squadron ELEVEN’s Air Officer and in January 1997 assumed command of TACRON Twelve.  In May 1998, Rob reported to Commander, Tactical Air Control Group ONE as Chief Staff Officer.

            In February 2002, Rob reported to Commander, Naval Air Force, U.S. Pacific Fleet, as Comptroller and the Naval Aviation Enterprise Deputy CFO managing over $3.5B in assets to support 1,500 aircraft, 6 aircraft carriers, 60,000 military personnel, 4,500 civilians, 14 naval air stations/facilities, and the U.S. Marine Corps Pacific aviation force. 

            In August 2014, he assumed the duties as Comptroller for the Naval Computer and Telecommunications Station, San Diego, and stood up that command’s first Financial Management Department in support of the Information Warfare community. In November 2019 he graduated from the Naval Intelligence Navigation Leadership Development Program, a competitive three-year program formed to preparing senior civilian leaders for high-level leadership and responsibility opportunities.

            Rob has accumulated over 4,900 flight and over 1,000 small deck landings.  His awards include the Legion of Merit, the Meritorious Service Medal (gold star in lieu of two awards), the Navy Civilian Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy-Marine Corps Commendation Medal (gold star in lieu of three awards), the Navy-Marine Corps Achievement Medal as well as numerous campaign and unit awards.  Additionally, he has been a member of the All-Navy tennis team and competed in the U.S. Armed Forces Interservice tennis championships.  He has received a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of San Diego and a Master of Arts Degree from the U.S. Naval War College, and has achieved the DoD Financial Management Certification Level 3.   Additionally, Rob was the Coronado High School Head Varsity Girls’ Tennis Coach for 23 years, led them to 5 Western League titles, two runner-up CIF Team championships and had over 60 tennis players named to the San Diego County all-CIF team. 

            Rob retired from the Navy in February 2009 with the rank of Captain and is married to the former Wendy Adams Grieb of Weston, Connecticut.  After 10 years as the Navy civilian Comptroller for NAVCOMTELSTA San Diego, Rob retired in March 2023 and joined Wendy, a retired first grade teacher at Coronado Village Elementary.  They moved from Coronado, CA, their home for nearly 40 years, and now reside in Paradise Valley, AZ.  They have two children, Weston, Analytics Director for Pretium Partners LLC and Sarah, a studio manager and instructor at Core Power Yoga, San Diego.
